The village hall was filled with the whirr of sewing machines, the clipping of scissors and a hum of quiet chatter when a talented group of our ladies got together to respond to a plea from the staff of the neonatal ward at Darent Valley Hospital. The result of their efforts was a collection of beautiful small quilts to be used to create `nests` to snuggle babies when they are nursed in incubators.
It was a win/win situation as not only did we enjoy the task but the end products were gratefully received and we`ve been `commissioned` to provide other items.
At our February meeting we welcomed Andy Dinsdale, a director of Strandliners, an organisation committed to reducing plastic pollution. Working on the premise that to reduce environmental pollution we need to know what it is and where it comes from, members collect, identify and record the debris deposited on our shores. Their aim is not only to raise awareness but to influence policy at local and national levels.
Andy`s enthusiasm was infectious and it was an eye-opening presentation. We were left with much to ponder.
March promises to be a busy month. As well as our usual main and group meetings ladies can enjoy a special Easter Event at the village hall and take a trip to London for the Fashion City Exhibition at The Museum of London Docklands, followed by some retail therapy at Old Spitalfields Market .
Our March speaker is Delia Taylor who will be telling us the story of “Coco Chanel : from pauper to millionairess” . Interested? Visitors are welcome so just pop along to Farningham Village Hall on March 7th at 7.30.
